The facility is located in the north-eastern part of Poland in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. It borders the Puńsk commune to the north, the Krasnopol commune to the west, the Giby commune to the south, and the eastern border is formed by the border with Lithuania. It is located in the Niemen River basin. In terms of terrain, it is a hilly area with 26 lakes with clean waters, a network of streams and small rivers. ZARUBY is almost at the end of the world, and certainly at the end of Poland. It is only 5 km from the Polish-Lithuanian border, on road no. 16 from Augustów to Alytus (a historic Lithuanian town located on the Niemen River). On the way to Sejny, you leave the Wigry National Park to the west, break through the wilderness of the Augustów Forest, to reach a charming town with over 450 years of history. Further on, in the village of Berżniki, there is a war cemetery from 1914-1918, where 153 German soldiers and 358 Russian soldiers are buried. There is also a historic 19th-century parish church. In the commune, we can also find European beaver lodges and rare species of fauna and flora.
